TESL Minor

TESL Minor

To be granted a TESL minor, a student must complete, with grades of C or better 15 credits (5 courses) distributed as follows. All course work must be completed at UF. Note that the TESL minor is equal to the TESL certificate, minus a 3-credit internship. Students are allowed to enroll in either the minor OR the certificate but not both.

In order to add the minor, students must submit an Application to Add or Cancel an Undergraduate Minor to CLAS Advising in Farrior Hall. For more information, follow the link here to the Academic Advising Center page.

Required courses (5 courses of 3 credits each):

    • LIN 3010  Introduction to Linguistics
    • LIN 4721 Second Language Acquisition
    • TSL 3360 Introduction to TESL
    • TSL 3378 Pronunciation for TESL (prereq: LIN3010)
      • This course is only offered during Fall semesters, with priority seating for students who have officially added the TESL minor
    • LIN 3680 Modern English Structure (Prereq: LIN3010)
      • This course has priority seating for students who have officially added the TESL minor

If you are a Linguistics major, only LIN 3010 and 4721 can overlap with the major. In order to graduate with the TESL minor, you need to have (had) at least nine additional courses (core and elective) that count specifically for the LIN major. If you have any questions about graduating with a Linguistics major and TESL minor, please contact the Linguistics Undergraduate Coordinator.
